Districts of Copenhagen Part I


PISSERENDEN
This name translates to - A stream of piss, which tells you that it once was the inner city slum area. Today, Studiestraede is mainly focused on fashion for men, labels such as In Circus and Samsoe & Samsoe are leading the Danish trademark style. If you are looking for some top quality cafes, Floss ans Sabines are both top quality. If a vist to a record store equally takes your fancy, Baden Baden is probably the best record store in Copenhagen.

SLOTSHOLMEN
The seat of the Danish parliament is located here. It stands on wooden pillars which is the basis of continueing debate. This place is the very center of the Danish state. This half artificial island is where all the government offices are like the offices of the Supreme Court to the royal horses, the Danish Stock exchange, the offices of the Prime Minister, The Castle Church, The Museum of Arms, The Royal Court theatre, the Royal Brewery of Christian IV as well as the new addition, Det Kongelige Bibliotek which is one of the most astonishing new pieces of architecture north of Bilbao.

CHRISTIANSHAVN
This is actually built on a garbage dump which is situated between Copenhagen and Amager. You can take a canal trip which will bring you floating past the beautiful old houses, and one can see the locals preparing their vessels for the sea, or taking it easy on their home made house boats.

CHRISTIANIA
This is a sort of -Free Town, which has an Amsterdam feel to the place, Here one can buy all sorts of goods from all over the world.

HOLMEN
This area has being turned from an old naval base into a unique colony for the arts by a group of artists and film students.

AMAGER
Not a great place to hang around.
