The High Street, Stroget is a pedestrian street which travels
throught the entirety of the old city center. From Radhus pladsen
(the Town Hall Square) to the pleasent Kongens Nytorv, the shopping
transforms into the fashionable boutiques of Gucci, Prada and Gianni
Versace which takeover this part of town. Kobmagergade is also a
pedestrian street which is becoming a more fashionable street, with
Bennetton, Diesel and Esprit all located here along with other local
brand stores. Also in this area are lots of excellent restaurants
further up towards Norreport.
Around Kronprinsensgade are where the local designers like Bruuns
Bazaar and Munthe plus Simonsen are located. At Amagertorv one will
also find exclusive and expensive design shops such as Illums Bolighus
and other fashion stores which range from the famous Royal Copenhagen
porcelain to the famous George Jensen silverware brands. Illum which
is an up scale department store consists of an entire block by the
corner of Kobmagergade and Stroget. Also one comes across a huge
department store called Magasin du Nord which is located on Kongens
Nytorv and it has an excellent food department.
Amagertorv is located in the middle of the city centre next to
a bizarre statue of Strokespringvandet and there is lots of singing
and dancing in this area, and can be enjoyed from the outdoor tables
of cafes at Cafe Europa and Norden. Straedet is a more quieter and
pedestrian street parallel to Stroget and has many interesting places
and one can window shop, or else chill out in one of the charming
cafes. Fiolstraede has the the Church of our Lady (Vor Frue Kirke).
In this church are statues by the sculptor Thorvaldsen. Kongens
Nytorv is where the Royal theatre is located and the exhibition
for modern art Charlottenborg is closeby. Restaurants are everywhere
and especially around the town square of Grabrodretorv.
