Copenhagen has lots of highlights and Many of the tours will focus
on the inner section of the city centre that’s within the lakes
as well as the oblong island of Christianshavn located in between
Amager and the centre. Maybe for Many tourists, a must see monument
is the Little Mermaid near Langelinie Quay which is on the Copenhagen
harbor. A rather small bronze statue that was robbed several years
ago, but is the main character in the fairy tale story by the Danish
writer Hans Christian Anderson.
The Kastellet fortress nearby has recently being restored and is
worth a look. It has lovely green verges with sheep munching away
and the old military buildings are very colourful and make it a
beautiful star shaped site. The views over yresund and the harbor
are lovely.
Along the southside of Copenhagen harbor is very scenic with the
maritime industry working away and the windmill areas also. The
Royal Gardens and Amalie Garden are of Rococo design and lead you
to the 4 Royal Palaces of Amalienborg. The Queen of Denmark, Margrethe
II lives here. The statue in the Square is of Frederik V in knights
dress.
The Marble church of Frederikskirken was inspired by St. Peters
Basilica in Rome. Tivoli is planted with thousands of flowers and
has lovely lakes, lovely buildings and fun fairs and has its own
unique Atmosphere. It is perfect for children and adults alike.
On the right side of ystervoldgade one will come across the Botanic
Gardens and also Kongens Have (Kings garden) on the left which
is a popular spot to relax right in the middle of Copenhagen. The
palace of Rosenborg Slot is in this garden is the former Summer
home of the King Christian IV.
Copenhagen is a beautiful Northern European city with its own unique
style and culture and is truly worth a visit.
Those interested in their Danish history should visit the most
northern section of the Island of Zealand. The city of Helsingor and
the castle of Kronborg, Elsinore. The play Hamlet was set in the
castle of Kronborg. It was the Royal residence back in 1400 and
it was Denmark’s main fortress.
